CHRIST THE LORD: Out of Egypt - Anne Rice
Well it's impressive Anne Rice decided to write about something apart from blood and fangs, and it's also impressive she went through a lot of trouble researching and researching...but it could've been too many late nights or something ...that led her to miss the main point: JESUS KNEW WHO HE WAS EVEN BETTER THAN WHAT HIS OWN EARTHLY PARENTS KNEW OF HIM AND ABOUT HIM, EVEN HIS OWN BIRTH MOTHER, the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY!!
The very fact that his parents did NOT understand what HE said to them -after he remained in Jerusalem to Question and teach the elders about the scriptures- and the fact that JESUS KNEW WHO HE WAS, and that GOD was HIS Father, show THAT HE KNEW, HE WAS GOD'S SON!
How could ANYONE be DIVINE and be THE 2nd Person in the DIVINE TRINITY and Not know it!! IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE! CATHOLIC Doctrine teaches THAT JESUS KNEW WHO HE WAS ALL THE TIME! HE WAS BOTH GOD AND MAN FROM CONCEPTION AND FULLY AWARE OF IT! Sure HE humbled himself and did not cling to HIS Divinity, but suffered as a human being, but HE was aware of WHO HE WAS!
He knew when it was HIS time to begin miracles, HE knew when it was HIS time to die amongst many other things that his earthly parents simply could not know or tell him or even fully comprehend.
HE didn't just turn into "GOD" on HIS 12th birthday or something. IF someone is BOTH GOD AND MAN, HE WOULD STILL BE OMNISCENT, OMNIPRESENT AND OMNIPOTENT. HE Became HUMAN AND HE WAS ALSO DIVINE, KNOWING ALL THINGS. IF someone knows all things, HE would certainly know WHO HE IS! HE even knew what people were thinking when they were plotting this or that, HE knew what was in their hearts, and plenty of examples of this is mentioned in the New Testament. This is not something anyone could have taught him when he was 12 or 14 or whenever.
You might be wondering: but HE went to school/ got educated etc like everyone else and experienced pain, fatigue etc, that is because HE humbled HIMSELF to meet HUMAN LIMITATIONS, and at the appropriate times, revealed HIS POWER and NATURE such as in the TRANSFIGURATION, WHEN HE APPREARED AS HIMSELF: GOD: the 2nd person of the Trinity, with Moses and Elijah alongside.
He could've clung to HIS Divinity at 2 years old if the FATHER wished and spoke of the Kingdom like no other could!! But it was not time.
I think Dear Anne should brush up on some vital Catholic teachings, and I say this in the kindest manner.
By suggesting that Mary and Joseph kept these things from HIM, it portrays it as a situation of today where a child who was adopted didn't know who his parents were and now they know. This I feel undermines Mary and Joseph as the chosen guardians of JESUS. While physically they looked like your average joe, their spiritual state was very holy, filled with GOD's graces, and were contacted by Angels regarding GOD's HOLY WISHES. Why would GOD choose the two Holiest people on earth, fit to raise HIS SON, and protect HIM against those who want to kill HIM prematurely, so they can end up not telling him who HE IS until he's 7 or whenever and leaving Jesus trying to "discover" who HE IS. She may not have intended it to seem that way, but it makes Mary and Joseph seem unwise, and it makes it look like there were a lot of hidden agendas and some tension in the family. It also destroys the truth of the HOLY FAMILY UNITY and the HARMONY within that HOLY FAMILY.
There is NO WAY His earthly parents would've known the full mystery of the DIVINE TRINITY, Which HE, who IS the "Second Person", displayed full knowledge of, many times throughout the BIBLE. All they knew were the scriptures & Whatever was revealed to them by the GOD: FATHER, SON, HOLY SPIRIT.
And bear in mind, the SON as amonst THEM, LITERALLY!! GOD: the HOLY TRINITY Is EVERPRESENT, and HE certainly knows who HE is, AT ALL TIMES be it HE was a Zygote in HIS mother's womb or a 2 year old toddler or a 7 year old child.
THAT SAID, it's pleasing to see it's not one of those "da vinci codes" stuff where they suggest the unsuggestable. Honesly, these people just don't seem to realise there can be a platonic relationship between a man and a woman. They seriously must realise that they are also accusing GOD of incest, since Mary Magdalene is JESUS' creation and daugher/sister, since we are all Children of GOD and brothers/sisters in JESUS CHRIST.
